Have you lost some or all of your teeth? Do you want to restore your smile to its former glory? Dentures are custom-made appliances that replace missing teeth. If you think dentures may be what you need to restore your smile, we welcome you to ask Dr. Anthony Gonzalez about dentures in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dentures can do the following for you and your smile:

  • Restore the appearance of your smile
  • Improve your oral health
  • Make it easier to eat
  • Make it easier to speak
  • Maintain the shape of your face, preventing a sagging appearance

There are two types of dentures—complete and partial. Our dentist may suggest complete dentures when all of the teeth are missing. Partial dentures may be recommended if some natural teeth remain.

Complete dentures are either conventional or immediate. Conventional dentures are made and placed in your mouth after all of the remaining teeth are removed and the gums and tissues have healed. The healing process can take several months. Immediate dentures, on the other hand, are inserted on the same day that your remaining teeth are removed. They are prepared beforehand by our dentist. With immediate dentures, you do not have to be without teeth during the healing process, but the denture will likely need to be realigned or remade when the healing process is complete.

A partial denture or bridge is used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. A removable partial denture is made of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored base. This is held in the mouth by a metal framework. A fixed partial denture, or bridge, replaces teeth by placing crowns on the teeth to either side of the space with the false teeth in between. The bridge is cemented into place.
